Embassies of Germany and Poland, representatives of the Embassies invite you to a short panel discussion and cocktail reception to celebrate The Year of the Rabbit from a European perspective.

GESS presents: Lecture by German writer Charlotte Kerner

In September 2011 German writer Charlotte Kerner’s new book ‘Jane reloaded’ (Beltz & Gelberg, Weinheim) was published. Just like her Bestseller ‘Blueprint’, ‘Jane reloaded‘ is a science fiction novel with a very special mix of facts and fiction. Themes of this Factasy are anthropology and evolution. In October Ms. Kerner will visit the German European School Singapore to work with the students and on 19th October the school organizes a public lecture (in German), during which the author will talk about her new book and the process of writing it. Everybody is cordially invited to this event.

Charlotte Kerner was born in Speyer, Germany, in 1950. After studying economics and sociology in Mannheim she spent a year in Canada (1976) and a year in China (1978). Her experiences in China inspired her first book, ‘Jadeperle und großer Mut’, on which she collaborated with a sinologist. Charlotte Kerner has worked exclusively as a writer and journalist since 1980. She writes novels primarily for adolescent readers, often on the lives of women and on issues related to medicine, research and the sciences, and has received many awards for her works. Since 1979 Charlotte Kerner has lived with her family in Lübeck, Germany.

Zafer Senocak reads from Atlas of a Tropical Germany

Born in Ankara, Turkey in 1961, Zafer Şenocak grew up in Istanbul and Munich before moving to Berlin where he resides today. He writes books in German and Turkish as well as essays for German newspapers and radio stations. He has published the poetry volumes Flammentropfen (Flamedrops), Ritual der Jugend (Rituals of the Youth), and Selected Poems, 1980-2005. His novels include Die Prärie, Gefährliche Verwandtschaft, as well as Der Erottomane. His first novel written in Turkish, Alman Terbiyesi, was published in 2007 in Istanbul. Senocak has been Writer-in-Residence at several American Universities, among them M.I.T., Dartmouth College, Oberlin College, University of California at Berkeley, and Lafayette College.
